Werner serves WSBT as a meteorologist. He joined the WSBT team in 1995 and has served the station for more than 2 and a half decades. Bob auditioned for a part-time weathercaster job at WNDU-TV in 1978. Dick Addis, the famed local weathercaster, hired him as a backup. Bob spent seventeen years with WNDU-TV before joining WSBT 22 News in 1995.

Bob has been recognized as a meteorologist and a full member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) due to his extensive math and science skills. In fact, he considers gaining the AMS Seal of Approval in 1988 and the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist title, the highest honor offered to a broadcast meteorologist, in 2010 to be the highlights of his weather career.

The huge blizzard of January 1978, just a few days after his first TV audition, was the most memorable story he covered in his career. The most difficult aspects of his job, he adds, are dealing with the time constraints of live television and forecasting issues caused by Michiana’s “lake-affected” weather.

Bob urges those interested in a career in broadcasting to study hard, be realistic about their abilities, and be willing to work for low pay at first. He also enjoys reading, astronomy, long-distance running, softball, and golf. Bob says thanks to all the people of Michiana for watching and making it possible for him to be on the air for such a long time!
