McFadden serves at NBC News and MSNBC as the senior legal and investigative correspondent, contributing to NBC’s investigative unit across all NBC News platforms. She joined NBC News in March 2014. Before joining the NBC network, she worked at ABC News as an anchor and correspondent where she co-anchored Nightline and appeared on ABC News Primetime.
In 2004, she served as an anchor of Primetime where she substituted for Ted Koppel on various occasions. In her career, she has had several interviews with celebrities such as Judge Judy Sheindlin, Paul McCartney, and Clint Eastwood, past and present leaders like Tony Blair, and Pervez Musharraf, and five interviews with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
After twenty years at ABC News, she left the station and joined NBC on March 29, 2014. Prior to, joining ABC News serving as the network’s legal correspondent in 1994. While in college, she was the executive producer of Fred Friendly’s Media and Society seminars based at Columbia from 1984 to 1991. From there she served as an anchor and producer for Courtroom Television Network.
Furthermore, she contributes to a website for women to discuss culture, politics, and gossip called wowOwow.com which was launched in 2008. In addition, she has co-hosted and hosted several species and documentaries on ABC. In the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) she serves as the co-chair of its board.
In her career as a journalist, she has received several awards such as; the George Foster Peabody Award in 1985, twice she received the Cine Golden Eagles award, the Ohio State Award, Silver Gavels from the American Bar Association, Grand Award of the New York Festival, THE blue Ribbon of the American Film Festival, and the Gerald Loeb Award for Video in 2002.
