Ushery serves at NBC 4 New York as the co-anchor of the 11 AM and 5 PM weekday newscasts. He is an integral member of the NBC 4 New York news team. He has covered many of the Tri-State region’s biggest and most recognizable breaking news events. His work was honored with a National Emmy and an Edward R. Murrow Award for broadcast excellence. Previously, he co-anchored the weekend editions of “News4 New York” and was the host of the Emmy-nominated “The Debrief with David Usher” The program was nominated for three consecutive years for an Emmy.

Before joining NBC 4 NY, he served at WABC-TV, where he rose from general assignment reporter to full-time anchor of the early morning and noon broadcasts during his 10-year tenure and was the main fill-in anchor for the evening newscasts. While at WABC, Ushery provided thorough, in-depth coverage of the shooting death of Amadou Diallo as well as the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

At that time, he also covered news outside of the tri-state area, including the space shuttle tragedy in Houston, Texas; the O.J. The Simpson trial in Los Angeles, and Elizabeth Smart’s disappearance in Utah. For a series of studies on the island’s political and economic instability, he made numerous trips to Haiti; to Africa and Toronto for the visit of Pope John Paul II; and to South Africa to cover the United Nations Conference on Racism.

Ushery was the lead evening reporter for WFSB-TV in Hartford, Connecticut, prior to joining WABC-TV, and also covered for the Hartford Courant and the Los Angeles Times. He was 11 years old when he was picked to host the local version of “Kidsworld”, a nationally syndicated TV show, from a Connecticut statewide search. One of his first interviews was with Walter Cronkite, the news icon, who at the time was considered one of America’s most trusted men. “Kidsworld” was hosted by Ushery until he was 18. Ushery is known for his enthusiasm for volunteerism and tireless commitment to the local community. When coming to his education, he received honorary degrees from St. John’s University in 2014 and St. Francis College in 2018.

He has also been consistently recognized for his contribution to the viewing audience of NBC 4 New York and has been awarded numerous awards, including the 2014 Nubian Cultural Center’s “2014 Legend’s Awards” for community expertise and service; the Public Relations Society of America’s 2013 “Excellence in Journalism” award; 2012 Emmy Award for Special Programming: Dead Sea Scrolls; 2011 McDona Scrolls; 2011 McDona Award for Special Programming: For his journalistic achievements, the Network Journal and Black Professionals Business Magazine called Ushery one of its “40 Under-Forty”. For his thorough, fair, and balanced reporting on issues that concern all New Yorkers, the Israeli Consulate in New York City honored him.
