Slater serves at WISN 12 News as a weekday morning meteorologist, appearing from 4:30 AM to 7 AM, and 11 AM (he has held this role since August 2019). He began as a Weekend Evening Meteorologist at the station and she held that role for nearly 3 years.
Slater’s career in meteorology began with internships while she was in college, including roles at WKOW TV Channel 27 from May 2008 to January 2009, NOAA National Weather Service from March 2007 to January 2008, and WISN TV Channel 12 in September 2006. After college, she worked as a Graphics Assembler at Weather Central from August 2008 to January 2009.
Slater then joined FOX 40 WDBD-TV, where she served as Morning Meteorologist from February 2009 to June 2012 and co-hosted Fox 40 A.M. from January 2011 to June 2012. She later moved to KSPR-TV, where she worked as the Morning and Midday Meteorologist from June 2012 to June 2016. From there, she now joined WISN-TV.
While at WDBD-TV, she reported on the April 27, 2011, tornado, a big snowstorm in Jackson, MS (4 feet!), and a big flooding along the Mississippi River. In Springfield, Missouri, she covered an EF-5 tornado when it hit Joplin and she also reported on ice storms, severe snows, and all the other severe storms as well. Slater has always loved the weather. Growing up, she would rush outside with her camera whenever a big storm was coming, eager to capture the dramatic weather scenes. Slater is actively involved in the NWA – National Weather Association and the AMS – American Meteorological Society, and she holds both their seals of approval.
Lindsey Slater Volunteer Work
Slater has been always passionate about giving back to the community. From September 2009 to June 2012, she volunteered with the Mississippi Animal Rescue League. She then served as Director at Mississippi Spay Neuter from September 2011 to December 2016. In 2016, she volunteered with Watching Over Whiskers for six months. Since August 2016, she has been working as an Animal Care Volunteer and Cat Socializer at the Wisconsin Humane Society.
