Mitchell serves at FOX 5 DC as a Morning News Anchor, as well as Host and Reporter. Previously, she was working for FOX 5 DC’s sister station, WAGA-TV FOX 5 Atlanta as a news anchor/reporter. There, she was a reporter during the day and co-anchor for “News Edge at 11” on weeknights. Before the role of weeknight co-anchor, she was anchoring “Good Day Atlanta” on Saturdays and Sundays. In the first year with FOX 5 Atlanta, Mitchell was nominated for an Emmy Award by the Regional Southeast EMMY Chapter for “Best Anchor”.

Before going to work in Atlanta, she was in Birmingham, Alabama, working for WBMA-TV(ABC-affiliated) as a news anchor/reporter. She was part of the WBMA’s launch team for its “Focus @ 4” program and anchored the “Midday News.” There, she mostly reported on stories with regard to government funding and city hall. She assisted in leading the station’s coverage of the 50th Anniversary of the “Selma to Montgomery March”. It was attended by Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, as well as John Lewis, the late United States civil rights icon and congressman. 

Mitchell has been passionate about journalism since she was 9 years old. When she was a teenager, she worked as a co-host of the morning announcements TV show at Dunwoody High School. She co-hosted with Ryan Seacrest, her fellow Atlanta native, and Dunwoody High School grad. She got her start at WTVC-TV, a dual ABC/Fox-affiliated station in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she served as a multimedia journalist. Also, she served as a writer for Crossroads and Rolling Out News. She covered everything from the 2011 tornado outbreak across the Southeast to the deadly April 27 while working there. 

Throughout her career, Mitchell has covered everything from Super Bowl LIII week to Hurricane Irma. She has spent a couple of days covering protests in Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina following high-profile, officer-involved shootings in the year 2016. She has also been in the field as an anchor for the inauguration of Brian Kemp, Georgia Republican Governor, who faced a controversial race against Democrat Stacey Abrams that earned national attention. Also, she has been in face-to-face interviews with some of the biggest stars of Hollywood at the grand opening of Tyler Perry Studios. 

Mitchell has been in exclusive interviews with several newsmakers. Some of these newsmakers include Deepak Chopra(world-renowned wellness guru), Halle Berry(actress), Oprah Winfrey(media mogul), and Clint Eastwood(screen legend). Mitchell holds the “Salute to Excellence Award”, which she received from the National Association of Black Journalists. This award was for her story with celebrity tributes to the late “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin. 

Mitchell is part of the National Association of Black Journalists, as well as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. She is a mentor for multiple budding journalists and speaks at various churches, conferences, and schools. She holds honors for her community involvement with women and youth.
