Fryklund serves at KOCO 5 as a meteorologist for First Alert Weather. He has over 4 decades of experience with TV news. He began his career at KBJR-TV in Duluth, Minnesota as a photojournalist. From there, he moved to KARK-TV in Little Rock, Arkansas as a photojournalist. He began as a photojournalist at KOCO before taking the role of a meteorologist. He started to cover weather events regularly in the year 1996. Since then, he was working on improving his skills in storm chasing by pursuing storm spotter training courses via the National Weather Service annually and learning from KOCO-TV meteorologists.
In May of 2011, he experienced his favorite storm-chasing moment, when he was chasing a tornado that struck Piedmont. Together with a reporter, they picked up the tornado near Hinton and followed it as it crossed Interstate 40. Fryklund says that the storm was wrapped in the rain so that they could not literally see it. They were however close enough to feel the force of the storm that almost lifted their truck off the ground. Fryklund and the reporter waited for the tornado to pass across Interstate 40 then went ahead at a safe distance. When they decided to travel to the east on the interstate, there was a semi-trailer on its side, not more than 1.6 kilometers (mile) from where they had made their stops. It was fortunate that there were no injuries, and they continued chasing the storm while broadcasting live from their vehicle.
Fryklund says that he is thrilled to chase storms and therefore he loves his job because it gives him the chance to use his training to alert the public during weather emergencies. When he is not at work, he likes carpentry, fishing, and camping. He is a member of Quail Springs Baptist Church, where he works with the audio/visual team. He also serves as a teacher of third-grade Sunday school. Fryklund is also a licensed drone pilot.
