In January 2012, Niziol joined The Weather Channel from the National Weather Service in Buffalo, NY, where he was a meteorologist-in-charge, coordinating full warning and prediction activities across western New York for the public, maritime, and aviation interests. He has led research and science activities and partnered with stakeholders such as emergency services and other government departments at the state and national levels. Prior to that, Niziol was the National Weather Service’s research and procedures officer in Buffalo, NY.
In that position, he was responsible for facilitating, preparing, organizing, and overseeing the transition from the science community to the operational forecast and alert climate of new and evolving scientific technology and forecasting techniques. Niziol was an assistant atmosphere scientist at Calspan Corporation in Buffalo, NY, until the National Weather Service. Thereby contract publications for atmospheric sciences, he performed all phases of experimental study from field studies.
Niziol has written several academic articles and poster sessions on winter weather forecasts throughout his career and has traveled the world presenting at various meteorological conferences. He has won the following awards: the “Francis W. Reichelderfer Award” from the American Meteorological Society for research contributing to significant progress in the forecast of snowstorms caused by the Great Lakes, the “Operational and Research Achievement Awards” from the National Weather Association, and the National Isaac Cline Award” for Diversity Management from the National Weather Service. When coming to his education, Niziol has a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Oswego meteorology.
