Before, she had co-hosted the Chicago Air & Water Show and All-Star Shootout Golf Show on ABC 7. She filled in for weather anchors Spencer Christian and Tony Perkins on ABC’s Good Morning America from 1993 to 2002.
Prior to joining ABC 7, she anchored the morning and noon weathercasts at WRIC-TV in Richmond, Virginia. (1992-93). Prematurely, she was the chief weather anchor at WFMJ-TV in Youngstown, Ohio (1988-1991). She started her broadcasting career as a weathercaster at WTRF-TV in Wheeling, West Virginia (1988).
In 2013, Butler along with co-director, Scott Woodruff, began a golf outing called The Duke Classic, to tribute the memory of the long-time ABC 7 professional of an operating camera, Michael Dukewich, who succumbed in 2012. The outing raised nearly $100,000 to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository & the Wounded Warrior Project.
She promotes the expertise of young children via her Weather Sketcher’s Club, which inspires children to send their weather-associated drawings for ability airing on ABC 7 News This Morning. “I LOVE seeing how children specify their creativity via paints, markers, crayons, and pencils”. In December 2018, Tracy was diagnosed with breast cancer during a routine mammogram. She statement and in a pre-recorded segment in September 2019. Immediately she started her treatment for breast cancer since it was detected earlier. She later revealed that she was cancer-free and doing very well with the strength and support of her family. She stressed the importance of mammogram screenings which when detected early, it is easily treated.
