From there, she moved to Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she worked as a co-anchor of the evening newscasts at a CBS-affiliated station, WSPA-TV.
Umeh holds several awards for her work as an anchor and reporter as well. She holds an Emmy Award for Best Newscast and Best Investigative Series. She has been also recognized by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People(NAACP), the Illinois Broadcaster’s Association, and the South Carolina Television and Arts Association.
Umeh has been passionate about TV broadcasting since she was young. Growing up, she was watching the news on TV, seeing one of her favorite reporters taking on city hall and fighting for the little guy. She aspired to be like him since it was superheroic.
Umeh has worked as a Chair for the American Cancer Society’s Upstate Leadership Council. Also, she has worked with several nonprofit organizations such as Mathew House(an agency for disadvantaged youth), and Big Sisters Big Brothers.
