Tracee Wilkins Career

In Prince George’s County, Wilkins’ roots run deep. She was raised and graduated from High Point High School in the Beltsville area. Wilkins returned to the area as a production assistant and then a news writer for News4 after graduating from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, MD.

The first reporting job for Wilkins was at WCBI-TV in Columbus, MS, where she received an Associated Press award for her overall news reporting. Wilkins traveled east from Columbus to serve as the government reporter and fill-in anchor at WFMY-TV in Greensboro, NC. Wilkins was sent to Washington while working in Greensboro to report on the attacks of September 11th, both for that station and for WUSA-TV here in Washington.

Wilkins traveled to Tanzania to teach African American History and wrote for the Arusha Times, an African American Studies minor in college. In the Washington-area culture, Wilkins is very involved. In 2011, for her philanthropic work in the Washington area, she was honored with the ’40 Under 40′ Award from the Envest Foundation. For many years, she formed and managed a teen mentoring program named Girls R Talking. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta’s Federal City Alumnae Chapter and is an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists. Running, walking, drawing and golf are her other passions. Currently, she is writing her first book.
