She was hired as a backup host for Newsworld after two months, and the partnership lasted six years after she returned to Toronto. Dempsey takes over the daytime newscasts after two years with Metro Morning. She has filled in on Fresh Air, Radio Noon, and Here and Now, in addition to reading and writing the news. From the fall of 2002 to the spring of 2003, she worked as a co-host on The World at Six with Barbara Smith.
